The European Commission (EC) is seeking stakeholder input on how to strengthen research and technology infrastructures in Europe by addressing challenges such as limited funding and fragmented collaboration.
Research and technology infrastructures are vital to scientific excellence and technological advancement, playing a key role in strengthening the competitiveness of Europe’s research, innovation, and industrial landscapes. Yet, financial limitations and other barriers increasingly obstruct their development, operation, and accessibility. The future strategy will aim to boost synergy among these infrastructures, expand the range of services available, and encourage coordinated investment efforts.
BBMRI-ERIC welcomes the opportunity to add their contribution to the EC’s open call for evidence. BBRMI-ERIC agrees with the main problems and needs identified in the consultation and has emphasised additional points in their response (access the full response):
This input will complement existing evidence previously collected from initiatives such as the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), the European Research Infrastructure Consortia (ERICs), the expert group on technology infrastructures, and in the context of the European Research Area (ERA) policy agenda activities.
The Commission plans to adopt input and feedback in the third quarter of 2025.
