BBMRI-ERIC is active in the field of ELSI. We support the biobanking community by providing services and tools that promote regulatory compliance and best practice, as well as by influencing European policy.
The ELSI Knowledge Base
We develop and share practical guidelines for researchers in our open access resource platform. The ELSI Knowledge Base contains accessible information on relevant ELSI matters in biobanking.
The ELSI Helpdesk
We provide customised assistance to researchers working in biobanking, who have specific ethical and legal questions concerning their research projects.
We support you during the application phase for EU funded research projects by checking the mandatory Ethics Self-Assessment component of your proposal prior to submission.
Training & Workshops
We provide ELSI training and workshops to researchers on ELSI issues related to biobanks and biobanking in order to improve overall understanding, as well as raise awareness of legal and ethical issues arising in the field.
We monitor ELSI-related issues in biobanking, and influence relevant policy and regulatory developments at European level. We organise coordinated responses to relevant public consultations, as well as other interventions, representing the biobanking community, in order to promote ELSI-related matters in European biobanking.
Operating the basis of the BBMRI-ERIC federated model, we work in partnership with a network of ethical and legal experts from academia and practice across Europe, coming from our Member and Observer Countries. Our ELSI experts are at the core of any service we provide and any activities we undertake.
