The webinar will be split into two parts and held on the following dates:

Part 2: 30 September 2026, 10:15 – 11:30 CEST

Part 3: 5 October 2026, 10:15 – 11:30 CEST

ATTENTION: To attend the live webinar, participants must possess a copy of CEN/TS 17626:2021 for licensing purposes.

Summary:

The webinar series is held in the context of the EU project CaBRIOH and co-organised by CaBRIOH project partner Medical University of Graz (BBMRI.at coordinator) and the BBMRI-ERIC Academy. It focuses on the European Technical Specification “Molecular in vitro diagnostic examinations – Specifications for pre-examination processes for human specimen – Isolated microbiome DNA”. It gives insight into the document clause by clause and provides as background information scientific evidence and rational as well as practical tips for users of CEN/TS 17626.

Part 2 and 3: Clause 5 “Outside the laboratory”

  • 5.1 Specimen collection
  • 5.2 Specimen storage and transport

“From donor to transport to the laboratory: Donor, specimen, collection, stabilisation, transport, contamination” – Chapter 5 of CEN/TS 17626:2021 covers the longest and most critical steps of the microbiome workflow: everything that happens between the specimen donor and the specimen reception in the laboratory.

Speaker

Mag. (FH) Cornelia Stumptner (Med Uni Graz, BBMRI.at)

Host

Dr. Maike Tauchert

After watching the webinar, participants will have acquired the following knowledge:

  • Review the pre-examination workflow for human specimens intended for microbiome DNA analysis
  • Identify donor-, body site- and device-related variables that should be considered and documented
  • Understand how these variables can affect the examination results
  • Learn about different specimen collection methods and devices, including self-collection and home collection
  • Understand specimen stabilisation and the relevant storage and transport conditions
  • Recognise the main contamination risks and identify possible mitigation measures, including the use of controls
