Project Summary: PERIFORMANCE stands for Public Engagement in Research Infrastructures for Mission Cancer: managing complexity of emerging technologies.

Enhancing stakeholder engagement in cancer research is vital for improving the relevance, impact, ethics, and equity of outcomes. The EU-funded PERIFORMANCE project will advance local action under the Mission: Cancer initiative, using federated biobanking as a key platform for transdisciplinary research and innovation across Europe. By adopting a quadruple helix model that includes patients, healthcare professionals, industry partners, and policymakers, the project goes beyond standard Patient/Public Involvement (PPI) practices.

Additional Information

Focusing on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and the European Health Data Space (EHDS) in biobanking, the project aligns with promoting systemic solutions amid sociotechnical transformations. Its emphasis on ethical and societal dimensions aims to build public trust in technological advancements.

The project’s emphasis on ethical, legal, and societal dimensions resonates with the call’s focus on ensuring that technological advancements contribute positively to public trust and societal wellbeing. PERIFORMANCE prioritises broad dissemination and training, ensuring its outcomes are widely accessible and scalable. Its approach supports the call’s goal of achieving broad, lasting impact across Europe, reinforced by an open call for bottom-up engagement exercises in diverse contexts, considering local or regional needs.

PERIFORMANCE will contribute to the EU’s Mission: Cancer by fostering informed participation among stakeholders, enhancing the ethical use of new technologies and boosting the relevance and equity in public policy and research outcomes.
