BioBank Bonn has been awarded the BBMRI-ERIC Quality Label, recognising its high standards in quality management and biobanking. The BioBank Bonn is a central biobanking facility of the Medical Faculty of the University of Bonn and the University Hospital Bonn.
Since joining the German Biobank Alliance (GBA) in 2020, the BioBank Bonn has systematically expanded and strengthened its quality management activities. Participation in the GBN audit programme provided a structured framework for the further development of quality processes and procedures. Over the past one and a half years, the biobank team has worked intensively on implementing and completing the measures identified in the audit action plans, further enhancing standardisation, documentation and process quality across the biobank.
The GBN (BBMRI-ERIC) audit provided valuable external feedback and confirmed the effectiveness of the quality management system established at BioBank Bonn. Beyond the successful achievement of the Quality Label, the process fostered continuous improvement, strengthened quality awareness within the team and further aligned the biobank with national and European standards for high-quality biobanking.
Commenting the achievement, Dr. Bettina Bayerer and Nicolai Trimpop, Quality management BioBank Bonn say:
“Obtaining the BBMRI-ERIC Audited Quality Label is an important recognition of the continuous efforts invested in quality management at BioBank Bonn over recent years. The Quality Label confirms our commitment to providing high-quality, reliable and sustainable biobanking services for biomedical research and motivates us to continuously advance our quality-assured and future-oriented biobanking services.”
Dr. Sarah Eickhoff, Head of BioBank Bonn adds:
“The BBMRI-ERIC Audited Quality Label strengthens the strategic direction of our biobank and represents an important milestone for BioBank Bonn. We would like to thank the entire BioBank Bonn team, whose dedication and commitment made this achievement possible. This recognition reflects the collective effort of our staff and supports our mission to provide excellent biobanking services for the research community.”
Andrea Wutte, Head of Quality Management at BBMRI-ERIC, shares:
“BioBank Bonn’s achievement highlights how a structured audit programme can drive continuous improvement. Through its active participation in the GBN audit programme and the dedicated implementation of the resulting action plans, the team has further strengthened standardisation, documentation and process quality across the biobank.”
By receiving the BBMRI-ERIC Quality Label, Biobank Bonn joins a growing network of biobanks across Europe that maintain high standards in biobanking and quality management, reinforcing trust in biological resources used for research.
