Montenegro
The Montenegro National Node is a newly established national framework aimed at connecting existing biological sample collections and relevant expertise across research and healthcare institutions in Montenegro.
As a new BBMRI-ERIC National Node, its initial focus is on mapping existing resources, building a national biobanking network and progressively aligning practices with BBMRI-ERIC standards in quality management, ELSI and data management. The Node aims to facilitate responsible use of biological samples and associated data and strengthen national and international collaboration in biomedical research.

Clinical and translational biomedical research: Research involving human biological samples and associated clinical and laboratory data, with particular experience in molecular oncology and biomarker research.
Pathology and molecular medicine: Expertise in tissue-based research, molecular diagnostics and molecular characterisation of human disease.
Clinically characterised biological sample collections: Experience in establishing and using research collections of human biological samples linked to relevant clinical, pathological and laboratory information.

Montenegro became an Observer of BBMRI-ERIC in 2026: Montenegro was formally admitted as an Observer of BBMRI-ERIC in June 2026, marking the beginning of its integration into the European biobanking research infrastructure.
Establishment of the Montenegro National Node: The Montenegro National Node was established as the national coordination point for the development of biobanking activities and cooperation with BBMRI-ERIC.
Initiation of national mapping of biobanking resources: Mapping of existing biological sample collections, associated data, expertise and institutional capacities in Montenegro has been initiated as a first step towards developing a coordinated national biobanking network.
