SUMMARY:Webinar: The role of biobanks in realising the One Health approach
DESCRIPTION:The role of biobanks in realising the One Health approach \nTime: 24.03.26\, 10:00-11:30 via Zoom \nRegister here. \nOne Health aims at sustainably balancing and optimising the health of humans\, animals\, plants and the environment. This integrated perspective is especially important for tackling emerging zoonotic diseases\, antimicrobial resistance\, food safety risks\, environmental pollution and global health security. However\, One Health operates within regulatory frameworks that differ across sectors\, requiring consensus between fragmented governance structures. Operationalising a One Health approach calls for a convergence of legal provisions and regulatory compliance to become effective. \nBiobanking across human and non-human domains could play a key role in enabling the One Health approach by supporting the collection\, storage and sharing of samples and data for surveillance\, research\, and policymaking. At the same time\, it raises ethical\, legal\, and operational challenges that need to be addressed. \nThis webinar will open with a short introduction by Josephine Uldry (Swiss Biobanking)\, outlining the means for the biobanking community to support a One Health approach in research. Prof. Jakob Zinsstag (Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute)\, a pioneer of the One Health concept\, will share insights from his extensive field experience in implementing this approach in diverse contexts and communities\, illustrating how One Health approaches can improve epidemiology and public health policy in practice. Dr Adam Strobeyko (Swiss Biobanking and Global Health Centre\, Geneva Graduate Institute) will discuss the legal dimensions of pandemic prevention\, preparedness\, and response the efforts to integrate One Health into international frameworks and practical implications for biobanks. \nSpeakers: \nJoesephine Uldry \nProf. Jakob Zinsstag \nDr Adam Strobeyko \nModerator: \nMónica Cano Abadía \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:European Conference on Rare Diseases and Orphan Products (ECRD) 2026
DESCRIPTION:Save the date! The next ECRD will be held on 3 & 4 June 2026 in Prague and will be titled “Rare Diseases in a Changing & Competitive Europe: Shaping policies to address the unmet needs of people living with rare diseases”.  \nThe European Conference on Rare Diseases & Orphan Products (ECRD) is the largest patient-led policy-shaping event on rare diseases in Europe. \nBy bringing together people living with rare diseases and patient advocates alongside policymakers\, healthcare industry representatives\, clinicians\, regulators\, and Member State officials\, EURORDIS leverages the strength of this unique network to advance goal-driven policies that improve the lives of people living with a rare disease and their families. \nECRD 2026 is expected to unite over 500 participants in Prague\, with an additional 300+ joining online. Thanks to its hybrid format\, the conference will provide an unparalleled platform for connection and collaboration\, enabling participants across the rare disease community to exchange knowledge\, share experiences\, and build partnerships. \nPatient groups\, academics\, healthcare professionals and other interested parties who have conducted research or studies on rare diseases or public health projects are encouraged to submit a poster abstract for the ECRD 2026. \nThe submission form and detailed information on the guidelines and criteria can be found here.
