SUMMARY:ELSI Dialogues: Participatory Cancer Research and Regulation in Middle-Income Countries
DESCRIPTION:Description\nCancer is an increasingly urgent public health challenge in many middle-income countries\, where health systems face constrained resources. In this context\, strengthening cancer research and regulatory frameworks requires not only technical capacity\, but also inclusive\, participatory approaches that meaningfully engage patients and communities. \nThis webinar brings together experts from selected middle-income countries to explore how participatory models can enhance the effectiveness of oncology research and decision-making. \nA key focus of the discussion will be on practical mechanisms for embedding patient engagement within regulatory systems\, including advisory boards and co-creation models. Particular attention will be paid to the challenges and opportunities specific to middle-income settings\, such as resource constraints\, health literacy and institutional capacity. \nJoin us! \n11 September 2026\, 10:00-11:00 CEST \nRegister online here. \nSpeakers:  \n\n Naila Saadia Hamitou\, medical intern and public health advocate from Algeria\, member of the Public Relations Team at the Hope Dose Foundation\, Algeria\nMaria Theodoridou\, Secretary of the Board of Directors of ELLOK Hellenic Cancer Federation and President of the Cancer Patient Support Association “Living well with Cancer” in Heraklion\, Crete.\nProf. Ana Paula Myszczuk\, Professor in the Postgraduate Program in Planning and Public Governance. Head of the Intellectual Property Division at the Federal University of Technology – Paraná (UTFPR)\, Brazil\n\nModerators: \nDr. Ilaria Colussi (BBMRI-ERIC) \nDr. Zisis Kozlakidis (IARC/WHO) \nThis webinar is offered by ELSI Services & Research Department at BBMRI-ERIC.

SUMMARY:A guided walk through CEN/TS 17626:2021 for microbiome DNA analysis
DESCRIPTION:The webinar will take place on 14 September 2026\, 11:30-12:45 CEST \nATTENTION: \n\nRegistration is open until the end of the business day on 9 September 2026.\nTo attend the live webinar\, participants must possess a copy of CEN/TS 17626:2021 for licensing purposes.\n\nSummary: \n\nThe webinar series is held in the context of the EU project CaBRIOH and co-organised by CaBRIOH project partner Medical University of Graz (BBMRI.at coordinator) and the BBMRI-ERIC Academy. It focuses on the European Technical Specification “Molecular in vitro diagnostic examinations – Specifications for pre-examination processes for human specimen – Isolated microbiome DNA”. It gives insight into the document clause by clause and provides as background information scientific evidence and rational as well as practical tips for users of CEN/TS 17626. \nPart 1: Clause 1 “Scope”\, Clause 4 “General considerations” \n  \n\nSpeaker \nDr. Uwe Oelmueller \nHost \nDr. Maike Tauchert \nAfter watching the webinar\, participants will have acquired the following knowledge:\n\nUnderstand why a dedicated pre-analytical standard for microbiome DNA analysis is needed\, and what it can and cannot deliver\nHow scientific evidence drives the development of standards\nNavigate the structure\, scope\, and normative language of CEN/TS 17626:2021\nGeneral requirements for examination (analytical test) workflow developments\, and how to use pre-examination workflow components (e.g. collection devices\, nucleic acid isolation) for in vitro diagnostic (IVD) examination and for laboratories’ own developments\n“Specification”\, “verification” and “validation”- how they build the backbone for IVD product and laboratories’ own developments\nUnderstand the role of risk management for IVD products and for laboratories’ own developments\nDifferent responsibilities for IVD developers & manufacturers\, and for medical laboratories developing own procedures\n\nRegister here!
