SUMMARY:Webinar: New ethical appraisal process for Horizon Europe. Key changes and expectations
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Lisa Diependaele (Policy Officer – European Commission) \nFor all activities funded by the EU\, the ethical dimension is an integral part of research from beginning to end\, and ethical compliance is seen as pivotal to achieve real research excellence. Hence\, in addition to the scientific evaluation focusing on the scientific merit\, the quality of the management\, and the potential impact\, the Ethics Appraisal ensures that all research activities carried out under Horizon Europe are conducted in compliance with fundamental ethical principles. \nThis webinar will provide an overview of the Ethics Appraisal process for Horizon Europe\, the ethics issues that are evaluated during this procedure\, and offer general guidance on how to prepare the Ethics-Self-Assessment that has to be included in each application for funding. \n  \nPlease find the recording here. \nDownload a PDF of the presentation here. \n  \nDisclaimer: The ethics issues raised by activities proposed in applications submitted under Horizon Europe Calls and Programs must be assessed individually. The guidance offered during this webinar cannot anticipate any outcome of the ethics appraisal for any specific application. It is quite plausible that proposed activities on very similar topics or involving similar techniques are assessed differently\, in terms of the ethical issues raised\, their seriousness and/or complexity\, and how these ought to be addressed. The general guidance offered during this webinar therefore cannot create any new obligations on the European Commission or its Executive Agencies\, nor can the European Commission or any person acting on their behalf be made responsible for the use made of it.

SUMMARY:How to Operate a Biobank (Advanced)
DESCRIPTION:This course has been designed for all those who have already set up a biobank and want to operate a biobank sustainably successful. On the basis of lectures and various practical examples\, the participants learn how a quality management system in a biobank can be implemented or adapted and quality control and assurance can be improved. \nFurther course content is sample workflow advancement in a biobank through automation. Nowadays it is very important for the sustainability of biobanks to offer a modern portfolio of services. Therefore the students will gain insight into designing of a meaningful collection strategy and the implementation of additional services of a biobank. The indispensable topics data management and IT systems for biobanks will be taught through practical examples\, such as the development of URDs (user requirement documents) for biobanking software. For the sustainability of a modern biobank it is essential to know how a business plan can be developed. This course will also focus on the most important tools which should be included in a business plan.
